This week, Moran Motorsports unveiled the first of their brand new 2012 Pro Modified Mustangs. Mike Moran and Moran Motorsports have a reputation for cutting edge technologies and record breaking performances, laying claim to the first turbo Pro Modified in the 5’s and Pro Street car in the 6’s.
Starting with an NHRA Pro Stock bodies provided by Ford Racing, Moran and company spent a year testing and redesigning the body to suit their needs. Focusing on aerodynamics, a decreased front section, lowered roof line and streamlined rear bumper, will help the car slip through the air. The team even went through the trouble of narrowing the wheel wells for aerodynamic advantages. Made of carbon fiber, honeycomb and nomex, the body is as strong as it is light weight; weighing in at a mere 51 lbs. Keep in mind, that is with working headlights and taillights!
The 115″ chassis has been built by none other than Jerry Bickel Race Cars, and Jeff Hoskins is responsible for the paint and Boss striping.
The engine for this car will be just as impressive and ground breaking as the rest of the car. It’s a completely brand new design, taking the best from Ford, Chevrolet and Chrysler powerplants. The turbocharged alcohol design will allow Moran to run anywhere between 500 – 770 cubic inches from the 5.3 inch bore space bullet, while still maintaining a very nice package. The entire engine, from the intake to the oil pan, is constructed of billet aluminum.
Mike has plans test down South in the next few weeks in preparation for competing in the ADRL’s Pro Extreme class in 2012, where he will handle the driving chores for the first season. After working out the bugs and getting everything dialed in, Moran will then hand the keys over to his customer. That’s right, this car is already spoken for.
