If you’ve ever tried to put a substantial amount of power down to the ground you know that the more tire you have under your vehicle the better. Dan Millar laughs in the face of horsepower to tire size ratios behind the wheel of his Datsun 1200 UTE. Millar has pushed his Datsun into the 7-second zone on just a 225/50/R15 sized tire, thanks to some four-cylinder Toyota power.
The UTE that Millar drives is a very well-thought-out build that he’s been working on for a while. Under the hood is a stroked Toyota 4A engine that features a set of Siemens 2000cc injectors that provide plenty of fuel. A Precision Turbo & Engine 6780 turbo sends boost into the engine through a DB Fab intake manifold. The MoTeC M130 that controls the engine is tuned by Powertune Australia. Millar’s UTE is still riding on a leaf spring suspension that’s in charge of putting the power to the pavement.
The Mickey Thompson 225 radial tires that Millar uses are getting pushed to their limits when he lets go of the transbrake. These tires only have a tire tread width of 7.8-inches, so power management is tricky if you want to put up big numbs like Millar does. The Datsun is deceivingly fast, it covers the first 60-feet of the track in 1.217-seconds on its way to a 5.09 1/8-mile at 139 MPH. Millar became the fastest person in the world on a 225 fire with his impressive 7.95-second run at 168 MPH.
