LaFerriere And Rhodes Lay Waste To X275 Records At Rockingham

X275 is one of the most competitive radial tire classes out there, period. The class has evolved at an astounding rate, and racers continue to push their combinations to unbelievable levels. The Battle For The Thrones event at Rockingham Dragway saw the overall X275 record smashed once again, and the first pass in the 4.00 range for a nitrous combination was achieved as well.

When Eric LaFerriere joined forces with Duy Bui to pilot his “White Rice” Nissan 240SX nobody knew what this duo would be capable of. The 2JZ-powered Nissan went from being a class curiosity, to a contender, and now it is a full-blown threat to win any event.

White Rice has become a class record collector. LaFerriere reset the radial tire import world record at the World Cup Finals with an insane 6.38 run. At the time, LaFerriere also owned the X275 record in the 1/8th mile with an absurd 4.13 rip. LaFerriere and Bui weren’t just going to settle on those numbers, they were ready to try and rotate the Earth even harder with the little 2JZ that could.

During the final day of quailing at the Battle For The Thrones event, LaFerriere absolutely obliterated the X275 class record with a 4.03 run at 184 mph that was kicked off by a 1.01 60’ time. Those types of numbers are creeping in on Limited Drag Radial class performance territory and are extremely impressive. Remember, these numbers came from a six-cylinder 2JZ from Arrow Machine that’s backed by a M&M TH400 transmission, talk about combination optimization.

There was another X275 racer at Battle For The Thrones that went medieval on the record book as well, and his name is Ron Rhodes. The list of accomplishments that Rhodes has compiled at the drag strip is impressive, but what he did at Rockingham was huge. Rhodes became the first person to dip into the 4.00-zone with a nitrous combination in X275 with a booming 4.08 run at 182 mph with a 1.02 60’ time. This goes to show just how much of a handle Rhodes now has on that Holley EFI-controlled big-block BES mill and Neal Chance torque converter combination.

It’s going to be interesting to see where the X275 class goes from here. These types of runs are exciting to see, but they don’t come cheap, and it can make it hard to grow the class when combinations have the potential to go this quick. It’s a real possibility we could see a three-second run in X275 if the conditions are right in the near future.
