Mike Stavrinos Dominates Pro Mod At Firebird Motorsports Park

The Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series is brutally difficult. You’ll see multi-time race winners and champions not even qualify for some events. None of that phased Mike Stavrinos, he rolled into Firebird Motorsports Park and dominated the Pro Mod class by picking up two wins.

This season, the Pro Mod racers were supposed to have their first points-earning race at the Gatornationals. Mother Nature had other plans, so the Arizona Nationals would be a double event for the Pro Mod class. Those who qualified for the Gatornationals would race it out during qualifying for the Phoenix event.

Stavrinos went on a tear in the desert. He spent Friday and Saturday winning the weather-delayed Gainesville event, plus he locked own the number one qualifying spot for the Arizona Nationals. It wasn’t an easy quest for Stavrinos considering his final round opponent was Pro Mod legend Rickie Smith.

“It really doesn’t feel real right now. I’ve wanted one of these (Wallys) since I was a little kid,” Stavrinos said. “I can’t tell you how much this means. I’m a little emotional right now. It’s awesome and the guys worked so hard on this. We thrashed on these cars all winter just getting them ready. We didn’t have great results testing, but everyone just pulled together. Everyone involved in this whole deal is phenomenal. To be No. 1 qualifier and win the Gatornationals, hats off to all my guys. They deserve this.”

Sunday rolled around and Stavrinos wasn’t done yet. After battling his way to a second-straight final round in one weekend, Stavrinos saw Smith in the opposite lane for the Arizona Nationals final. When the dust settled, the win light shone brightly for Stavrinos and he had earned his second Wally in less than 24 hours.

“This is something I wanted to do with my whole life, and we did it twice in one weekend,” Stavrinos said. “This isn’t even real to me. I really do owe it all to my crew. Without those guys, this wouldn’t happen. I’m just out here having fun.”

To top everything off, Stavrinos also pocketed an additional $10,00 for winning the Total Seal Pro Mod Showdown. This is awarded to the driver who has the best E.T. average during the event’s four qualifying sessions.

The Congruity NHRA Pro Mod Drag Racing Series will make its return during the NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMax Dragway, and Stavrinos will arrive at this race with a commanding points lead.
