Drag racing is a motorsport that can be found the world over, with iconic tracks all over the globe from Pomona California, to Santa Pod in the UK, Sydney in Australia, and nations in between. In looking at each country, you can see diverse cars and classes that racers compete there, and each is undeniably unique from the next. 

There’s one thing that ties all of these different regions together, albeit in differing forms, and that’s the the need for faster-than -the-law-should-allow door car racing. Down under, the Australian Pro Street Association (APSA) makes sure the racers have an organization to support heads-up racing, and oh, what an exciting organization it is.

The APSA was founded nearly ten years ago by some racers who wanted unified rules and a way to see had the quickest and fastest street car in the land. This group of racers set up the rules, classes, kept records, and organized races all across the country. Cars that race in the APSA must look like street cars as much as possible, or be registered for street use. The classes include Pro Street, Modified Street, True Street, X275, and Outlaw Radial. The APSA has been molded in the idea of heads-up racing that is ‘run what ya’ brung, and hope ya’ brung enough’.

The power plants that motivate these hot rods are big blocks, small blocks, turbocharged, supercharged, nitrous -ed and naturally aspirated in nature.  You even see a good amount of four door sedans doing some serious work in the quarter mile.
