Maryland International Raceway has been the home of some crazy action over the last couple of years. As the virtual birthplace of the X275 class, and one of the best-prepped facilities in the country, MIR has seen its fair share of insanity. This past weekend the track held their Midnight Madness event, and the folks at The Racing Vids were on-hand to capture the action. Chris Evans, one of the longstanding ambassadors of X275 and a proponent of radial-tire racing for the last decade, had his ride set on kill just prior to this run. Evans’ machine relies on a small-block engine with an F-1X ProCharger aboard to make big power, and prior to this run he had placed himself third on the qualifying ladder with a strong 4.87 at 149 MPH.
The “set on kill” attitude is apparent just off the launch, as Evans got all four tires up off the ground and came down with a bang. Unfortunately, he didn’t make the call for the first round of eliminations, leading us to wonder just how much stuff a huge wheelstand like this damaged. The sparks alone don’t bode well for a good outcome, just about guaranteeing a dented oil pan and perhaps much worse, but knowing Chris, he’ll be back on the track before long. “No Wheelie Bars” is one of the rallying cries of the X275 crowd, and we love them for it, since they always put on a great show.
