Factory automobiles have really come a long way in the past couple of decades and the drivetrain components have progressed along with everything else. Factory rearends are designed to work with the factory horsepower numbers, but as we’ve seen, horsepower is inexpensive these days with superchargers, turbochargers and nitrous kits available on request. When you make a modification with power adders, you probably need to look at getting a stouter rearend to handle that extra power. 

“Factory units are designed to work with factory horsepower numbers, and they can handle a little more but you don’t want to push it too much,” says JC Cascio of Strange Engineering. “Our Aluminum 9.75″ 5th Gen Camaro rearend offers an option to the standard 9-inch steel fabricated units. Cascio explains that the new Camaro rearend is also quieter in its operation. “The unit uses Dana 60 internals which means you can use a Dana spicer gear. That makes for an easy setup and quieter compared to some of the aftermarket 9-inch assemblies on the market today.”
