Big races bring out big performances on every level of drag racing, and this past weekend’s Duck X Productions’ No Mercy V event was no exception. There was lots of chatter on every drag racing website and Facebook page about who would be the man by the end of the event, and there was even talk of the potential for 3.90s to be seen on the scoreboard. Two of the biggest sharks in the radial tire ocean are Dwayne “Golden Gorilla” Mills and Stevie “Fast” Jackson, with Jackson making his return to radial racing at this event. During qualifying these two lined up for a good old grudge race and laid down the quickest side by side radial tire race ever in Radial vs. The World.
Right now Mills is the current king of radial tire racing, owning the quickest elapsed time of 4.08 achieved earlier this year at the Throwdown in T-Town. His Proline Racing-powered Camaro was considered to be a favorite to win the Radial vs. The World crown due to his consistent killer performances. Jackson himself is no slouch, as he has won his fair share of radial tire races all over the world. Lately Jackson and his car “Shadow” have been crushing pretty much everybody in the grudge world brave enough line up against him.
The race was caught on video in amazing fashion by Steven Auglis over at TheRacingVids. During the burnouts you can see how packed the starting line is with crew and spectators, adding to the big money grudge race feel. As the cars went to stage things got really interesting as an old school staging duel broke out. Neither driver wanted to be the first one to bump in until Jackson lit the bottom bulb and Mills followed suit. Once the tree finally dropped, Mills left first to earn the holeshot win by turning in an outstanding 4.11 at 195 mph to Jackson’s even-quicker 4.10 at 183 mph.
