Jeff Sitton only recently made the transition from no-time grudge racer to lighting the scoreboards in Radial vs the World competition, but watching his assault on the sticky front half of South Georgia Motorsports Park at Duck X Productions’ No Mercy VI radial extravaganza, Sitton looked like a seasoned small-tire veteran. Racing out of the vaunted Killin’ Time Racing camp, Texas native Sitton fired a warning shot in his home state a few months ago when he jumped straight to the 4.0’s in his very first outing on Mickey Thompson’s sticky radial, a feat many long-time radial class competitors have yet to accomplish.
He then fired off the first 3-second pass by a nitrous car on radials in pre-No Mercy testing, setting the stage for an insane string of passes, culminating with what most would have said was highly unlikely at this race, if not impossible: a 3.90 at over 192 mph
Sitton officially joined the 3-second club when he laid down a mind-blowing 3.94 in the first qualifying session, only to come back in round two and match it with an identical 3.94, eliminating any chance of candy wrappers, gremlins, or hiccups affecting the first shot. Then, to wrap up qualifying for No Mercy’s showcase class, Sitton ripped a hole in the time-space continuum and lowered the record to a 3.909 at a staggering 192.74 mph, which is off the chart speed for a nitrous combination.
To find the secret to Sitton’s accelerated learning and performance curve, look no further than who is standing behind the car as it stages. The legendary go-fast guru Steve “Stevie Fast” Jackson calls the shots on the sleek Camaro, which succinctly explains the otherworldly performances coming in such short order. With promoter Donald Long having already upped the ante for his February “Lights Out” event to a massive $50,000-to-win purse in Radial vs the World, it seems like a safe bet that every big gun in the small tire world will be headed to SGMP loaded for bear. For now, the man they’ll all be gunning for is Jeff Sitton.
