Undoubtedly the most popular class to hit the track in the past year has to be Ultra Street, which was an effort brought on by John Sears as an alternative to the fast pace of X275. It allowed big block naturally aspirated and small block nitrous cars to have a place to compete on an even playing field. Throughout the 2012 season thus far the big block naturally aspirated cars have proven to be a top contender where ever they choose to race, and Marc McCloud is considered the man to beat in this class with a string of top level performances this season.
McCloud’s 1988 Chevrolet Monte Carlo started life out as a high school cruiser back in 1990 and slowly started a transformation to a full-on race car. His racing career started within the ranks of the Maryland Street Racing Association, competing in 10.0 Index and then in their Pro Street 9.50 Index until the end of the MSRA’s long run in 2009. Marc was also a standout in the RAM Racing 9.50 Index class that catered to all naturally aspirated racers on the east coast.Â

With the introduction of Ultra Street in 2011, McCloud made the transition to the new heads-up class that allowed cars like his to compete. His Monte Carlo is motivated by a Steve Schmidt Competition Engines 632 and combined with a Rossler turbo glide has motivated the Monte Carlo to four number one qualifiers, four final rounds and three wins in competition this season. McCloud recently competed at the Yellowbullet Nationals, taking the number one qualifying position and winning the race, marking the biggest win of his racing career. Look for Marc to continue as front runner in Ultra Street as he tries to wrap up the 2012 Cecil County Dragway track championship as he maintains a small lead over Mike Barry.
