You can always find the industry leaders at the PRI Show. The companies that innovate and do the heavy lifting of innovative product design and manufacturing. Callies Camshafts has been around since the late 80s and now they are ready to make some big moves.Â
Brooke Piper of Callies Camshafts breaks down what is new for them.
“Callies is introducing a finished ground line called VTG as in Valve Train Group. For years we made the cores for ninety percent of the aftermarket cores. We have done some grinding in the past.”
“Now we are going to start grinding finished cams for everyone. We are offering the VTG Finished Ground Cams for the LS, the LT market, Duramax, Powerstroke, SBC, BBC, Tool Steel, Carburized, you name it.”
“I guess our feeling is we have done the heavy lifting for ten years plus now making the cores. We know how to grind. We have all the latest grinding technology that we do on our crankshafts. All the checks and all of that. We actually started grinding cams from the word go with brands like Homies.”
“Callies has all of the equipment. We got our own lobe designer now. So now we are going to come out and introduce our finished grind cam from Callies.”
What Does Everyone Need To Know About VTG Finished Ground Cams?
DragZine: “What are the general tech specs on these cams that people should be aware of?”
“The biggest thing is the stuff you cannot see. The burn. You have to check for burn because that will cause lifter failure. Spec wise, we are taking what everyone gives us, and says we want this cam with these perimeters and that is what we are doing.”
“Just like any other cam company. We are gonna have a catalog with different lobes, different grinds, and all of that. We have been making top fuel cams, finished grinding top fuel cams for four years for a lot of the teams. We are good in that market, we just need to expand, so we might as well do it.”
DragZine is at the 2021 PRI Show bringing live event coverage. Stay tuned for more exciting features, new products, and all of the high tech racing and performance news coming out of the industry.  Â
