Late-model Mustang enthusiasts are always on the look out for the latest performance upgrades for their street/strip musclecars. Typically the first modifications include an air intake and an upgraded exhaust. But what if you have a factory supercharged engine? That’s why companies like VMP Superchargers markets blower kits for the Blue Oval contingent.
2003-04 SVT Cobra
For the Terminators, VMP carries a 2.3L TVS package that is a direct replacement for the factory-installed M112 supercharger. It’s not a universal supercharger, but rather a kit that was specifically designed for the ’03-04 Cobra.
It features a one-piece housing similar to the OEM blower, and the rigid housing design allows for for a larger rear inlet that makes installation easier. This VMP upgrade will get you the reliability of the OEM supercharger but will deliver the efficiency of a TVS package.
But that’s not even the best part. Install one of these onto your Terminator, and you’ll see gains anywhere from 100hp all the way up to as much as 350hp to the rear tires – depending on the pulley size and tune. VMP offers you a choice of pulley size and throttle body inlet elbow for your application.
They come pre-filled with oil, all of the hardware, a 100,000-mile service interval, and a 1-year warranty. They bolt right into your OEM location without any fabricating, and include a 45mm bypass-valve for cooler temps, improved drivability, and greater fuel economy.
2007-13 Shelby GT500
Shelby guys have the privilege of owning cars that had at least 500hp from the factory, so they’re a little more difficult to impress. For these enthusiasts, VMP Superchargers has just what they need.
Owners of the ’07-12 Shelby’s equipped with the 5.4L can expect up to 200-350rwhp gain when upgrading to the 2.3L, depending on other modifications like a cold-air intake, pulley size, tune, and exhaust. If you order this package, VMP will deliver everything you need – including colder spark plugs, high-flow CNC inlet elbow, a 90mm idler pulley, and a 2.5-inch blower pulley.
Speaking of pulleys, VMP offers them in different sizes ranging from 2.4- to 2.8-inch diameters that can deliver anywhere from 16-22psi of boost. The blower intended for the 2013 5.8L model is very similar to the ones offered for the earlier cars in terms of basic design, however it utilizes a different intake elbow and cannot interchange with the older engines.Â
Like the supercharger VMP offers for the Terminator engines these bolt right in without any drama, and according to VMP installation is typically a 2-hour job for the average guy. They are available in either black or silver, and come with a 1-year warranty.
