Third-year NHRA Pro Stock racer Camrie Caruso was injured Saturday when she lost control of her Aqua Prop/True Brand/Big Jeff Audio Chevrolet Camaro and crashed during qualifying for the NHRA Arizona Nationals at the Firebird Motorsports Park in Phoenix, Arizona.

Sitting outside the qualified field, Caruso was on a single run in Saturday’s final qualifier, when her car drifted out of the groove early, forcing her to lift. Caruso motored on down the track, crossing the stripe at a slowing 142 mph, when the driveline in her Camaro appeared to inadvertently lock up, causing it to turn hard into the left lane retaining wall, before careening across the shutdown area and striking the opposing wall with similar force.

Caruso was examined on-site by NHRA’s medical staff and then transported to a Phoenix-area hospital for further evaluation. Camrie is reportedly in good spirits, after doctors diagnosed her with a broken fibula in her left leg and possible sprained ankle. She is expected to be sidelined for a minimum of six weeks.

“My return date is a little up in the air at this moment, but I can’t wait to get back on the track and represent my incredible roster of partners aboard my Aqua Prop/True Brand/Big Jeff Audio Chevy Camaro.”
