For decades, the National Hot Rod Association has highlighted some of the fastest cars and best drivers in the country through events at their endorsed tracks and team sponsorships. But starting this year, the NHRA will also be highlighting one of the best new trucks on the market- the Chevrolet Silverado. According to Motorsport.com, the Silverado has become the Official Truck of the NHRA for 2014 and years to come through a multi-year agreement between the drag racing organization and Chevrolet.
Over the last several years, Chevrolet has been an important part of the NHRA, being an official sponsor, providing teams with great cars to compete with and even being the title sponsor of one of the most prestigious drag racing events in the country- the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals.
Being named the Official Truck of the NHRA, the Silverado is increasing Chevrolet’s involvement in the drag racing community even more. Starting this year, the Silverado will have a large on-site presence during all NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series events, particularly in correspondence with the NHRA Safety Safari team. Silverados and sister Chevrolet, the Suburban, will be used during track preparation during Mello Yello Series events, as well as be involved with emergency response duties.
“Chevrolet is proud to partner with the series as the Official Truck of NHRA, and are honored that our Silverados and Suburbans will be utilized by the NHRA Safety Safari,” Jim Campbell, vice president of Performance Vehicles and Motorsports, said in a recent news release.
“Our involvement in NHRA allows us to showcase the most dependable, longest-lasting trucks in America to our customers and fans, and to fans of NHRA drag racing.”
The NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series kicked off this year on February 6th. The next official event will take place May 16th through the 18th at Atlanta Dragway in Atlanta, Georgia.
