Jeg Coughlin, Jr. added two more wins to his record last weekend at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Kentucky. He won Friday’s event, worth $5,000, and promptly moved into Saturday’s events, netting another $10,000 paycheck in the Big Bucks event, part of the Tenn-Tuck bracket race.
Coughlin’s wins this weekend only added to the laundry list of high-dollar ET bracket titles he’s already claimed. Earlier this year, he took three wins in a weekend at the Ultimate 64 Shootout at Edgewater Sports Park, and topped his dragster class in the American Race Cars Shootout at No Problem Raceway in Belle Rose, LA.
“We had a couple of good days,” said Coughlin. “I drove consistently and aggressively and we also had a few breaks along the way which is what it takes at these events because these big bracket races are so tough. I decided to come to this race at the last minute because we were switching my dragster from gas to alcohol. I worked on the set-up with George Rupert and we quickly found the right tune-up.”
Friday night’s final round pitted Coughlin against veteran Luke Bogacki, another successful professional racer. Coughlin needed a perfect pass to take the title, and he pulled it off – a .008 reaction time and dead on his dial in.
Many drivers would start the celebration there, but Coughlin was gearing
up for the next day’s events, which went equally as well. Coughlin and his dragster topped final round opponent Randy Shear, in Chris Bear’s dragster.
Coughlin made a total of 36 passes over the weekend between his dragster and the JEGS.com Chevy II, and took 16 straight elimination rounds to seal the two titles for the weekend. Coughlin, however, is already looking towards the next race.
“We’ve got the Million Dollar race coming up in a couple of weeks and this really helps my confidence,” said Coughlin. “I’m especially pleased with the way my dragster responded to the new alcohol set-up. Lately, my Chevy II has been the go-to car but the dragster was outstanding this weekend. Now, I’ve got two really good cars that I can bring to Montgomery.”
