Back in June, Daniel “Pazzo” Nunziante made history when he became the first and only racer in the drag racing-crazy nation of Australia to record a six-second pass on drag radials, when he scorched the Sydney Dragway quarter-mile to the tune of a 6.89 at 22 mph from his twin-turbocharged, Ford-powered Cortina. The Melbourne native has continued to make strides with his little wheelbase-challenged Ford in the months since, and over the weekend, upped the ante on the rest of the radial tire contingent in the Australian Pro Street Association Series, as he clicked off a 6.77 at 228, once again in Sydney.
The 6.77-second lap helped guide Nunziante to the victory in the APSA Grand Final event, as he he combined it with a pair of 6.90’s and several wild, off the throttle passes — including one where the front end of the car attempted to take flight beyond the eighth-mile mark — to outpace the rest of the Outlaw Radial field.
Nunziante’s record-setting pass began with a 1.258 short time, a 3.173 to 330-feet, a 4.601 at 177.60 to the eighth-mile, and a 5.789 to 1,000-feet.
SCF Race Cars built Nunzinate’s gnarly “PSIDUP” Cortina, and a Glenn Wells-built 632 cubic inch big block Ford rests between the fenders, feeding a ProTorque Gen2 Revolution Series torque converter.
