Although we all hate to see this time of year, the Outlaw Diesel Super Series season has officially come to a close. However, the end-of-the-year event did deliver a lot of excitement. For the last few years, it seemed as if there were only going to be one or two diesel-powered dragsters on the grounds of these events. However, Michael Cordova has put that thought to bed. He and his team have been quietly tinkering on his diesel dragster with hopes to come out and crush the competition. This was a debut year for the car as it has been collecting dust for a while. From where I stand, I feel like making it to the track and making clean passes is a win.
However, with the support of good people and his knowledge of both diesel performance and motorsports combined, this has been a monumental year. In addition to capturing a victory at the recent Wagler Fall Nationals event, Michael piloted his Cummins-powered dragster to a record-breaking time. He is now the owner of the eighth-mile diesel record with an astounding 3.87-second pass at 191 mph.
“This is a dream that became reality this weekend. I’ve been dreaming about this moment for more than 10 years,” Michael said in a Facebook recap post. “With all of the support from family, friends, sponsors, and fans, we made it happen! The cherry on top, is we finished the season on top of the podium.” Although this was an extremely tough and exciting feat, it didn’t come without its challenges.
Michael and his team had a rough season as they dealt with broken fittings, weak batteries, broken nitrous solenoid mounts, tire shake, and more. However, at 4:03 p.m. on race day, none of that mattered. The 3.877-second pass in his diesel dragster made him the quickest human on the planet with diesel fuel!
