As the 21st Annual Haltech World Cup Finals came to a close on a chilly Sunday evening in Budds Creek, Maryland, one thing was for certain, the domestics came to battle in 2016! As the top four heads-up classes rolled to the lanes for the final rounds, there were seven domestics left standing and one lone import.

Kevin Fiscus flat out stole the show all weekend long with he and Josh Kluggers’ radial tire, stock suspension Ford Mustang out of Jacksonville, Florida. Fiscus unloaded out of the trailer and started rolling out five-second timeslips like clockwork, including a blistering 5.92-second shot (and a new radial tire world record) in the final round of qualifying, bested only by Isaias Rojas and team MechTech’s 2006 Scion. But as eliminations got underway, the Pro Line-powered, FuelTech-managed Mustang was a picture of consistency all the way to the final. There, Fiscus strapped a holeshot on Damon Chin’s 2006 Celica and parlayed it into a $20,000 payday. All told, Fiscus defeated a host of lighter weight cars with larger tires on a track not prepped for radial tires and did so with historic numbers in what will be long remembered as one of the most impressive performances ever.

Rob Goss brought his HEMI-powered Dodge Challenger to the X275 vs. Hot Rod category in hopes of going back to the finals for the second straight season. Goss and team qualified in the No. 2 position, as well, right behind X275 kingpin Rich Bruder and his blistering 6.86. The ProCharger-powered, FuelTech-equipped Challenger made steady but brutally quick runs all weekend long, running 6.80’s on all but a handful of passes. Goss faced off with Vinny Palazzolo in the finale and put down another 6.86 at 204 mph to grab the first major victory of his career and a cool $10,000 check.

Mike Modeste (Radial vs. Modified) and Eric Kenward (Street Fighter) also tallied victory marks on the domestics side for bragging rights. The huge event was exactly what it was promoted to be – 425 of the baddest imports and domestics on the planet, smacking the record books around like a rag doll and filling the facility with thousands of eager race fans cheering on their favorites all weekend long.
