Lucas Oil and MavTV announced their sponsorship of longtime pro stock racer Greg Stanfield on Tuesday. Stanfield will be taking on the competition this season in the MavTV/Lucas Oil Chevy Camaro beginning next month at the Winternationals in Pomona.
In a release today, Stanfield said, “we’re thankful that Tom Bogner and Forrest Lucas jumped onboard. I think it’s a good fit since J.D. owns a trucking company that uses Lucas Oil. Hopefully with the help we’re getting we can turn the corner. We had a lot of engine failures last year, which set us back.”
Fans may remember some of the struggles that Stanfield had last season, due largely to the lack of sponsorship he faced as the season progressed. Needless to say, the value of the sponsorship isn’t lost on Stanfield.
Tom Bogner of Lucas Oil said he was happy to have Stanfield on the team.”Greg is a great racer and we’re excited to see what he can do for us. We know he’ll do a good job of spreading the word about how Lucas Oil Products provide everything a customer will ever need.”
As of today, the team is planning to run the new Camaro for the first eight races of the season, and then take a look at their overall performance. All told, the plan is to run a minimum of fifteen to sixteen races this season.
Since his professional start in 1999 in the now defunct Pro Stock Truck class, Stanfield has been a successful racer, if limited by his grassroots budget. With new sponsors, and a new season ahead, Stanfield is feeling optimistic.
“We’re starting to put it together and it feels like we’re getting things back to where they need to be to make the MAVTV Camaro run fast,” Stanfield said, and he knows a thing or two about fast Camaros—he was the first driver to debut the new generation Chevy Camaro chassis. He raced to two semifinals in a very limited racing season.
Catch Stanfield and the debut of his MavTV/Lucas Oil Camaro at Pomona February 14-17 for this year’s Winternationals.
