Leah Pruett, one of drag racing’s top stars and mainstream personalities, announced via Instagram Thursday her engagement to open wheel and stock car champion Tony Stewart, following a year of courtship.
“Thought no better time to share our engagement than right now, after the Tour De Florida clutch dust settled. Checking out hot rods and cruising the Havasu strip with my husband to be @tsrsmoke. The undeniable level of love, happiness, and soulfulness we have together is monumental. He might run in circles, but is the straightest shooter and the salt of this earth.. Looking forward to a lifetime of sunrises and sunsets that the Lord has gifted us together,” Pruett said in her announcement, which received more than 16,000 likes Thursday night.
“So excited to spend the rest of my life with a truly amazing woman,” Stewart added. “She’s motivated, hard working, funny as hell, and as dedicated to her sport as anyone I’ve ever known.”
Stewart, 49, is racing royalty — a three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion, IndyCar champion, USAC Triple Crown winner, stock car team owner, and short-track hall of famer. His marriage to Pruett, 32, will be his first, following a prior engagement in 2017. Pruett is a lifelong drag racer, who has risen from Jr. Dragsters through the ranks to compete at the sport’s top level, piloting a Mopar-backed dragster for Don Schumacher Racing.
Last year, Stewart, with the support of his Top Fuel star girlfriend, attended Frank Hawley’s Drag Racing School to add drag racing to his long racing resume.
The pair follow in the footsteps of another recent famous open wheel-drag racing couple: IndyCar star Graham Rahal and Courtney Force.
