You too can meet the "Master", as Ed Pink's "Old Master" top fuel dragster will be headlining the "Nitro Thunderfest" at this year's upcoming Goodguys 12th Meguiar's Del Mar Nationals. Image: The Rodder's Journal
Goodguys Rod & Custom Association always have something cooking. This time around,
One of the most popular and certainly the loudest attraction at the Goodguys 12th Meguiar’s Del Mar Nationals will be the “Nitro Thunderfest.” Six vintage top fuel dragsters will be brought to life on a full load of nitromethane one by one in front of the standing room-only Del Mar crowd.
Headlining Thunderfest will be the beautifully restored “Old Master” slingshot, originally owned by Ed Pink and driven by Mike Snively.
Pink, who will be on hand throughout the weekend to sign autographs for fans as one of the event’s Hot Rod Heroes (joining Ed Iskenderian), will assist car owner and fabricator Pete Eastwood in bringing the Old Master to life.
The gorgeous Old Master restoration was done by Eastwood in 2010 and is outfitted in its 1965 short body trim.
Joining the Old Master will be Ron Johnson’s “ChiZZler” and “Barnstormer” dragsters, Tommy Allen’s “Watchdog” Woody Gilmore car, Bobby Hansen’s “Wynn’s Spoiler,” and Ken Blackmore’s “Poison Ivy.”
The Nitro Thunderfest is scheduled for 1pm Friday March 30th and 1pm and 3pm on Saturday the 31st at the Clocktower. As Bill Doner used to say…”Be there!”
