Drag racing’s roots were first planted in the years after World War II out on the west coast when Wally Parks founded the NHRA to organize races and help keep the racers safe. Back in those days people would “hot rod” their daily drivers to see how fast they could go. In the modern world of drag racing there are multiple large sanctioning bodies and even more regional series throughout the country, and one west coast series that is gaining popularity is the Pro Slammers, an all-door car organization bent on putting up fast times and great shows for the fans.
The Pro Slammers is an organization that now has two classes: a 6.90 index class and Pro Modifieds. Most of the events for the Pro Slammers are held at Sacramento Raceway in conjunction with other special races. The series runs off a four-tenths pro tree, follows Advanced ET safety regulations, and is fast and loose with what kind of combo you can run. At a Pro Slammers event you will see cars running huge screw blowers, monster sized turbos, and large multi-stage nitrous systems. The variety of door cars that participate in the series is also pretty radical, from the more common Pro Mod bodies like the Camaros and Corvettes to ex-Pro Stock Trucks, Studebakers, GTOs, and even a four door Valiant!
In this really cool video from Nitroamerica you can see just how close the racing is and the variety of cars. If you live out on the west coast do yourself a favor and make the trip to Sacramento Raceway to see the door car action!
