The NHRA was created by Wally Parks to provide people with a safe place to race other than the streets. Parks’ vision and dream was realized, but street racing isn’t something that can be fully snuffed out. Street racing high-powered cars is a dangerous prospect, and Bill Brown lived out that danger as he demolished his very potent Nova in a violent crash.
Brown brought his Nova to the BSCR Cold War event that was held on an unnamed street, in an undisclosed location. There were plenty of fast cars at BSCR Cold War, and lots of cash up for grabs, so it’s no surprise that racers were willing to take the risk on the streets.
6Sixty Street captured footage of Brown’s wild ride and the aftermath from several different angles. As Brown’s Nova accelerated down the street, it looked like he had the race won and things were going to end well, until they didn’t. In the video, you can see Brown drift to the left on the street and make contact with the curb, that’s when things got ugly in a hurry.
The contact with the curb launched the Nova off the street, the car went airborne, and struck a utility pole. The Nova’s impact with the pole was so violent it nearly tore the car in half, snapped the pole like a toothpick, and ripped the driveline out of the car. Thankfully, Brown’s safety gear did its job and he walked away from the accident with only a broken hand and other minor injuries.
