We’ve become a big fan of Moroso TV – sales technician Scott Hall has been going through a few of the company’s products as of late in an effort to show just how to work with them. We recently detailed a SBC/BBC crank trigger distributor install, and this time around we’ve got video of Hall showing how to rebuild two of the company’s vacuum pump offerings [Part Nos. 22640 and 22641].Â
Since the pump cover unbolts from the front of the pump, you simply need to remove the pulley and belt before taking out the for retention bolts. From there, pulling off the cover is as simple as sliding the mechanism out of the front side of the pump, taking care not to lose the thrust washers and bearing that are hidden on the back side of the shaft. Cleaning up the vanes is as simple as spraying carb and choke cleaner on the vanes after removal. He covers a couple of tech tips to note that will be helpful in diagnosing and repairing the pump mechanism.Â
From there, it’s as simple as making sure all of the oil is removed and ensuring that you replace the vanes in the proper fashion, with the chamfer on the vane facing inward towards the pump shaft. It really is amazing to know just how simple it is to clean one of these up and rebuild it, ensuring solid vacuum-sealing characteristics on your engine at low and high RPM. User-friendly design and in-the-field rebuildability – what more could you want? Check out the video, and for more information on Moroso products, check out their website.
