Having a heavy level of involvement in drag racing can take a toll on your time and your bank account, to say the least. Having a significant other who supports the racing way of life is always good thing and it makes things easier, no question. Larry Larson is lucky, because his wife, Sherry, not only supports what he does and travels the country (and the world) with him, but she’s even game to strap into his badass, famed six-second ’66 Nova and goes for a pass with him down the track.
Larson has forged a global reputation as being the true king of street car racing. His steel bodied Nova became the first car to break into the six-second zone during the grueling Hot Rod Drag Week event, and has won it a record five times. Larson has even tangled with some of the Street Outlaws cast at events, as well, so he’s always ready for a race.
At first, Sherry seemed a bit tense, but after the pass she was all smiles as she held the time slip!
Larson’s status opened the door for him to be invited to Australia this winter to compete in their Outlaw Armageddon event and put on some exhibition runs, where he got to take on the best racers from ‘own under’. During his trip, Larson has put on several exhibition passes, one of which included a passenger — his wife.
The video from No Prep Nation is shot entirely inside the car, so you really get to see all of Sherry’s emotions and responses. At the start of the video you see Larry getting ready for the pass like it’s just another day at the office, and he even helps make sure Sherry is snug in her seat. After the four-second 1/8-mile pass (which Larry ran out to about 1,000 feet), Sherry’s reaction is priceless, and you can hear the excitement in her voice.
Let’s be honest here, who wouldn’t want to go for a ride-along with the one and only Larry Larson?
