While we here at Dragzine in no way, shape or form condone illegal street racing, there’s no doubt that the viewers who have made Street Outlaws one of the most-watched shows on television are paying attention to what goes down in the 405.

Apparently the folks at ProLine Racing Engines are paying attention too, as the powerplant from Shawn Ellington’s “Murder Nova” made its way to the hallowed halls of horsepower recently for a tuneup. Previously, the car wore a supercharger pumping up the big-block Chevrolet engine, but Ellington recently made the switch to twin turbochargers — just like so many others have in the search for increased performance. 

Jeff Lutz of Lutz Race Cars and Drag Week fame worked to fit the car for the twin turbos, and there have been a number of other aftermarket companies we’ve seen featured prominently in the show.

Even though we think these guys should be taking their machines to the track to compete with, there is a huge group of viewers (more viewers than watch the average NHRA broadcast, in fact) that find the show highly entertaining – and it looks like Murder Nova has just taken a big step up towards regaining that number-one spot on “The List” from Daddy Dave and the Sonoma. 

The car does run at the track, as we’ve seen footage of it competing at a no-prep race on the show and other events on the web, but the majority of its “competition” is done on closed-off streets with floodlights and other enhancements that wouldn’t be present in a real street-racing environment. And this season, it’ll be done with a pair of turbochargers and a Proline bullet under the hood.
